Raffles City brings a little Shanghai into Singapore

FOR the first time, Raffles City Shopping Centre, Singapore, is staging a Shanghai-themed fashion-and-arts extravaganza to showcase leading fashion and art talent from one of China’s largest metropolitan cities.
To be held from 25 March to 3 April, the 10-day ‘Shanghai In Vogue’ will feature the works of 10 outstanding Shanghai fashion and accessory designers, lifestyle brands and creative talents at the mall’s City Square. The designer list includes Annabel Lee Shanghai, Shanghai Trio, Zhang Da, Lu Kun and Jenny Li.
Raffles City general manager Anthony Yip, said the event, which will transform City Square into ‘Mini Shanghai’, complete with chinoiserie glamour, would offer its fashionconscious customers a new shopping experience at the mall.
Participating designers will each have a dedicated area to display and sell their works, highlighting contemporary elements alongside the rich cultural tradition of Shanghai.
Said Yip: “We want to bring Shanghai’s fashion buzz and creative energies into our mall and share with our customers some of the latest style trends that Shanghai has to offer.”
He added that the showcase could encourage the exchange of fashion philosophies and styles between Shanghai and Singapore fashion designers, the latter having established themselves in the regional and international arenas.
“Shanghai In Vogue’ is part of the fringe event of the Singapore Fashion Festival (SFF) 2005, which will be taking place at the same time.
Organised by the Singapore Tourism Board, the SFF will feature a host of fashion shows and exhibitions as well as in-store promotions by local retailers.
