SCMLogistics World primes leaders to meet ‘the challenging time ahead’
Story 7 - Review

THE fourth annual SCMLogistics World 2008, held from October 13-16, at Singapore’s Raffles City Convention Centre, once again brought together delegates and business leaders who tackled
some of the concerns in the supplychain and logistics industry, discussing challenges and addressing issues faced in Asia and globally.

Organised by business media company Terrapinn Pte Ltd, the four-day event, which was attended by more than 400 delegates from over 15 different regions, was packed with back-to-back conferences and seminars presented by leaders in various fields touching on topics that ranged from fashion, FMCG and retail to high technology, chemical and automotive.

Said Stella Teo, general manager of transport, logistics and supply chain division at Terrapinn Pte Ltd: “SCMLogistics has been recognised as the leading supply-chain and logistics conference in the industry. We have been bringing in a very comprehensive faculty of speakers from the manufacturing background who essentially reflects current supply-chain and logistics challenges.”

Teo also noted that with the current economic situation, it was important for supply-chain and logistics professionals to “reshape” and “restructure” their supply chains in order to meet “the challenging time ahead”.

Also held for the first time this year was the inaugural Supply Chain Leadership Summit, which ran on the first day of the event. The summit spotted global and regional trends in supplychain management, as well as the impact of mergers and acquisitions, fuels costs and currency exchange on the industry,
among other matters of concern.

“We had about 120 very senior decision makers who came forward to discuss current industry issues … affecting the logistics business, how it also impacts manufacturers … as well as the supply-chain market, and how they are going to remodel and restructure it,” Teo continued.
