APRCE 2009: Changing retail environment needs new ideas for continual growth
Story 2 - Preview

FOLLOWING its successful 2007 run in Tokyo, Japan, the biennial Asia-Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition (APRCE) this year goes to Seoul, South Korea.

Organised by the Federation of Asia Pacific Retailers Associations (FAPRA) with the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) and the Korea Retailers Association (KRA), the event will be staged from October 14-17 at the COEX.

APRCE 2009’s conference theme, Retail for the future of life and the economy, reflects the issues faced by retailers, according to a joint statement by convention and KCCI chairman Kyung-shik Sohn and Chul-woo Lee, chairman of the organising committee and the KRA. “Global economic advancement and market competition without bounds place the retail industry in an everchanging environment. To continuously counter these challenges and changes in consumer patterns, collaborations and innovations are necessary.”

The statement adds: “This convention aims to provide ideas for trends in the new retail environment for continual growth and future development strategies. [It will also] provide a business environment in which retailers in the Asia-Pacific region can network in order to globalise their retail business opportunities overseas.”

The show is expected to see 10,000 visitors from the retail, manufacturing, service and technology-solution industries, including 1,500 leaders of major Korean retail firms such as giants Lotte Shopping, Samsung Tesco and Shinsegae Department Store, along with 2,000 others from key retail firms across 17 countries.
