Asia-Pacific retailers celebrate resilience at Retail Asia’s award and gala dinner
Story 3 - Special Event

Held on October 15, the 2009 Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner was a
star-studded night celebrating the achievements of key retailers from the region.

The event was once again organised to coincide with the Asia-Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition (APRCE), which was held in Seoul from October 14-17.

Despite being in the midst of a “turmoil in the global economic scenario”, as described by Steven Goh, Retail Asia Publishing’s executive chairman, in his welcome speech, representatives of
leading retailers from across the Asia-Pacific, namely South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, took their places among the 150 guests at the dinner.

A total of 42 winners were acknowledged this year for their resilience and stamina in the face of the current economy.

“This celebration is [in] recognition of your accomplishments … your entrepreneurship and your leadership in a very dynamic and volatile trading environment. How you have shaped your value proposition and, despite the turmoil in the marketplace [and] the impact on consumer confidence, managed to maintain your market positioning and more importantly your market share and
turnover,” Goh said.

Organised by Retail Asia Publishing Pte Ltd, in partnership with official market information provider Euromonitor International and principal programme partner KPMG, the gala event was also sponsored by principal sponsors, Visa International, ADT Security and Oracle Corporation, and co-sponsored
by Philips Lighting.
