ADT secures retailers without compromising on façade
Story 2 - Special Feature

Transcending conventional mall definitions, Ion Orchard, a joint venture development by Hong Kong conglomerate Sun Hung Kai Properties and Singapore’s property group, CapitaLand Limited, was among the first malls to open in over 10 years in the Orchard Road vicinity, breaking the boundaries of mall developments in Singapore and introducing a new era of retailing to consumers.

Positioned as a high-end retail mall, the property developer was tasked with having to ensure that the façade of the mall reflected the optimal customer shopping experience that it aimed to
provide to its shoppers. Located at a high-traffic junction of Orchard, Scotts and Paterson roads, and housing new brands that were making their maiden foray into the city-state, meant that the mall saw a steady stream of footfalls, which were evident from the average 200,000 visitors to Ion on weekends, following the mall’s soft launch last July.

As such, the mall manager, Orchard Turn Developments Pte Ltd, recognised the need to ensure that its tenants did not compromise on their security measures in their efforts to maintain the image of the mall.

While this would seem a Herculean feat to draw the fine line between security and aesthetics in the market today, renowned retail security solutions provider, ADT Security, a Tyco
International company, fitted out the mall’s retailers with the latest in security gadgets, without compromising on the façade of the new development.

As such, retailers leverage ADT’s Sensormatic concealed EAS (electronic article surveillance) system, the Ultra- Max AMS-3030, in order to protect their merchandise, while creating a conducive shopping environment for their customers.

According to ADT, about 97% of retail tenants who have installed EAS are using the Sensormatic EAS systems.

One such retailer is VGO Corporation Limited, which manages eight boutiques at Ion, namely Just Cavalli, Promod, Springfield, O’Neill, 7 for All Mankind, 6Five Barcode, World of
Sports and Columbia. Said Jasmine Tan, COO of VGO: “System reliability is an important consideration when we select a security solution, as the right solution will enable us to improve our operations efficiency and manage our merchan-dise effectively. We have chosen ADT’s Sensormatic concealed EAS systems to secure all our eight stores in Ion Orchard due to its reputable brand and we are satisfied with the performance it has promised to deliver.”

With its enhanced antenna design, the Ultra-Max AMS-3030 is designed not only to preserve the aesthetics of the store, by eliminating the use of detection pedestals at the store entrances ndexits, but also to maximise customer flow while securing the store’s merchandise.

In addition, the AMS-3030 is more costefficient,in that it is ideal for existing store upgrades or system transitions,as installation requires only thin floor cuts for the antenna cabling, instead of excavation of the floor area.

The technology behind this sleek yet stealth solution comes in the form of the AMS-9040 controller platform, which supportsup to four antennas, extending the AMS-3030 coverage from 2.1m-8.5m. Retailers then havea plethora of hard tags and sourcetagging labels that can be customised to fit with the specific needs f the retailer, while securing the store’s merchandise.
