The Business Company

The Business Company was incorporated in Singapore in 1993. It was set up as a business to provide retail management consulting services in Asia. Today, the company remains strongly focused in its business niche. It has however expanded its scope from retailing to the wider span of the supply chain industry. The company's core competencies lie in the areas of business strategy development; branding and market positioning; and market expansion programmes.

The Business Company was founded by Steven H L Goh, a career retail professional with a track record of more than 20 years of top management experience in Asia. He was the managing director and CEO of the Metro group of stores in Singapore - a company where he worked for more than 16 years. He had held various executive appointments on the boards of a number of Metro companies and other multinational corporations in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia such as Toys "R" Us, Kmart, Seiyu and Muji. He was closely involved with the Singapore Retailers Association and was its chairman for three successive terms.

He had also served on the boards and councils of such national bodies as the Singapore Central Provident Fund, Institute of Technical Education, National Productivity Council, National Crime Prevention Council, etc. Currently he serves on the Council of the Singapore National Employers Federation. He is an alumnus of the Young President Organisation. In 1993 he was conferred the Public Service Medal by the Singapore President. He had also received a number of commendations from the Singapore government for his services. He holds BSc and MBA degrees and speaks regularly at international conferences.

Clients/Projects
The Business Company has successfully worked on various projects in Asia with such multinational companies as Wing On of Singapore and Hong Kong; Kmart of USA; Great River and Toko Gunung Agung of Indonesia; Plaza Fair of the Philippines; Compaq Computers Asia Pacific; Turnkey Business Solutions of Canada; etc. It had also worked with other consulting groups as associates. There was Kurt Salmon Associates, an Atlanta USA-based global consulting group specializing in supply chain industries, and Netkraft, an international e-commerce solutions provider based in Bangalore, on projects concerning business development opportunities in Southeast Asia. Most recently, it has been appointed associate for Asia by Retail Forward, a Columbus Ohio USA based company specializing in retail intelligence and consulting.

The Business Company and Steven Goh enjoy very close networking with all major national retail associations throughout Asia and with key enterprises in Asia's major retail and consumer industries. Steven Goh personally has very cordial relationship with many corporate leaders in Asia. They also network closely with enterprises and trade organizations in North America and Europe. The company keeps very close touch with trends and developments concerning Asia's supply chain industry.

As a result of these relationship and networking, The Business Company has considerable leverage capabilities and opportunities. These are further enhanced by Steven Goh's other business interests. He holds controlling equity interest in Retail Asia Publishing - a company that publishes Asia's leading monthly retail trade magazines and that organizes regional retail conferences on retail-related issues. The publication company works closely with various trade organizations such as the Confederation of Asian Retailer Associations (FARA); the Food Marketing Institute of the USA (FMI); the International Houseware Association of the USA (IHA); Messe Düesseldorf Asia Pacific; etc. He also has equity involvement in a Web magazine on health - .
