Marks & Spencer To Debut In Kolkata
Story 13

MARKS & SPENCER (M&S) is set to debut in Kolkata, India, in a 30,000sqf retail development, reported local media.

The UK retailer will open under master franchisee Planet Retail Holdings, which will also launch other international retail brands Planet Sports, Next, Guess, The Body Shop, Accessorize and Converse in the same building. These brands will occupy three levels of the 12-floor property, with the 9,000sqf M&S on the second floor, Planet Retail told the local press.

M&S now operates 11 outlets in the sub-continent, of which three are in Mumbai, two in New Delhi, and one each in Bangalore, Chennai, Guragaon, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Pune.

Meanwhile, the retailer has also inked a deal with Taiwan’s President Chain Store to form a joint venture of which the British retailer will own 60%.

Under the venture, the companies aim to open two outlets in the country by year-end, with the first to be launched this May in a complex being developed by the Uni-President group.
