Vietnam’s retail scene abuzz with developments
Story 2

BOURBON HAI PHONG in Vietnam has been licensed to set up a Big C supermarket in Da Nang. The outlet at Vinh Trung Plaza will offer 30,000 products, with 95% from local manufacturers. The supermarket is scheduled to open by end-October this year, said local media reports.

Meanwhile, four leading retailers — Hanoi Trading Corp, Saigon Trading Group, Saigon Co.op and Phu Thai Group — have formed an alliance to establish the Vietnam Development Association (VDA). According to the Saigon Times Weekly, VDA will invest an initial VND1.5 trillion (US$943,515) to set up warehouses, hypermarkets, commercial centres and forwarding services. Another VND3.6 trillion will be invested in supermarkets, wholesale centres and other commercial activities.
