Jerasia taps golf niche in Msian retail Story 7
GARMENT manufacturer-retailer Jerasia Capital Bhd, which opened its flagship Nike Golf boutique in Bangsar, Malaysia, last June, has projected the stores sales revenue within the next year at RM5 million (US$1.42 million). The group also plans to set up a boutique this quarter in Kuala Lumpur, and 10 others countrywide by 2010.
At the flagship-store opening, executive director of Jerasia Capital, Pronob Senupta, expressed confidence in the golf boutiques, citing the groups retail experience and store locations in prime golfing areas in Penang, Malacca and Johor Baru.
Offering a full range of Nike Golf products for men and women, the flagship store amounts to about RM1 million in initial investment, Senupta revealed. The group, which reported a RM300-million revenue last year, currently manages retail outlets of both international and local brands, from MNG, Naf Naf and Calvin Klein to Lady Like, besides Nike.
Malaysias Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, who officiated at the flagship launch, said this niche sector in retail has been growing steadily over the years. The minister pointed out Malaysias more than 200 golf courses and over 600,000 active golfers as contributory to the growth. Last year, the total value of golf equipment sold rose by 5% from RM175.51 million in 2005 to RM184.3 million.
