Orchard Road makeover begins
Story 8

THE planned landscape and infrastructural enhancements of Singapore’s top shopping destination has kicked off. The S$40-million (about US$29-million) Orchard Road revamp will focus on lighting up the tree-lined boulevard, creating new spaces for events and bringing to market an integrated pedestrian mall. The project is expected to be ready next February.

“Shopping is one of our key tourism pillars. Together with the introduction of international shopping
brands plus the opening of new malls such as ION Orchard, Orchard Central and Somerset
Central by next year, the pedestrian-mall enhancement” will provide an improved shopping experience, said Andrew Phua, director of cluster development (tourism shopping and dining), Singapore Tourism Board.
