Story 7 - Special Review

FHA EXPANDS EXHIBIT SPACE, POSTS RECORD-BREAKING ATTENDANCE. After a two-year hiatus, the region’s biggest food and hospitality show, Food&HotelAsia, made a comeback at Singapore Expo from April 22-25, gathering industry players in a trade show filled with product trend-spotting, networking and conferences.

ORGANISED by Singapore Exhibition Services Pte Ltd (SES), Food&HotelAsia2008 (FHA2008), the 16th instalment of the biennial show, had been expanded to span seven halls covering 75,500sqm of exhibition space that housed 2,627 exhibiting companies, 80% of which came from beyond Singapore.

FHA2008 also brought in a recordbreaking 37,000 trade visitors from almost 100 countries, of which 37% came from overseas, affirming the pivotal role it plays in the burgeoning food and hospitality arena. A total of 50 group delegations from China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan visited the show.

One of the major buyers to the show was Resorts World Sentosa. A 20-member team, headed by Noel Hawkes, the company’s vicepresident for resort development, came to the show with a budget that added up to “hundreds of millions of dollars” to look around for products for the integrated resort being built on Sentosa island, Singapore.
