JIA bedazzles with its tableware and furniture shopping experience
Story 2 - Special Report

JIA, which means ‘home’ in Mandarin, is a one-of-its-kind houseware retailer that is committed to helping homeowners in Malaysia achieve their dream homes. Established in 2006, JIA is the
retail division of New Convox Sdn Bhd, a specialist in the supply of tableware, buffetware and furniture to various industries — hotels, restaurants, cafes, food courts, corporate offices, banks, telecommunication companies and more — since 1980 in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.

“As our products became more ubiquitous in top hotels and restaurants in town, enquiries started pouring in from walk-in customers who wished to purchase the tableware and furniture for their homes. Hence, JIA was set up to fill this growing niche,” explains the company’s managing director, John Teo.

Within a short span of three years, JIA has become the leading purveyor of quality tableware and furniture for Malaysian homes, serving a clientele beyond Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. “Among our patrons are wives of ministers and one of Malaysia’s state rulers, the Sultan of Kedah,” reveals Teo.

He adds: “JIA offers a one-stop solution to all dining and living needs with a comprehensive selection of tableware and furniture. The experience and strength gathered from our contract business in supplying tableware to hotels and F&B establishments has given us an edge in selecting and securing distinctive products of exceptional quality within the retail industry.

“Recognising the need for a more exclusive touch, we also offer a personalisation service for custom designs and name-printing on all tableware and furniture. Year after year, we have been experiencing a strong 30% growth and we are very optimistic about the market and believe the market has plenty of
room for expansion.”

Walking into JIA’s exclusive threestorey showroom with a built-up area of more than 6,000sqf is an inspirational experience in itself. Exclusive attention is given to every shopper where a one-to-one service is extended to assist the customer in finding just the right product.

Upon entering the ground floor of the showroom through a security-access door, JIA presents a large variety of culinary essentials, specially arranged to ignite the customer’s senses for a great shopping experience. There is every conceivable type of tableware and glassware to meet all the needs of food
connoisseurs.

In one corner sits DEDON’s contemporary outdoor furniture, offering a comfortable area where clients can choose the perfect seating for them to relax at home. A Shelta umbrella extends a protective arch to add realism to this mock outdoor tropical setting.
