US online portal eBay adds fashion to its portfolio.
Story 6 - E-commerce

IN a bid to refresh its online portal, USbased e-commerce company, eBay Inc, is taking to fashion, with the launch of ‘Fashion Vault’ at its site. The “vault” will feature “flash sales” of high-end fashion brands, with discounts starting at 50%, for a limited time period or while stocks are available, the company disclosed.

While the company said that it will not own or handle shipment for the goods sold on the site, it will however take charge of negotiating product lines with designers, which is a shift from its usual neutral third-party standing that the company has maintained.

“By partnering with trusted brands to sell direct, eBay continues to add to its already wide, deep shelves with ‘buy it now’ instant access to new brand-name merchandise at deep discounts, while inventory lasts,” stated Lorrie Norrington, eBay’s president of marketplace operations. With plans to “position eBay as a premiere fashion-shopping destination for customers looking for an incredible selection at great value”, the company has also launched a fashion site featuring apparel, shoes and accessories that are sold on the portal. This makes it easier for “savvy style seekers and bargain hunters alike … to browse and buy”, Norrington continued.

“So whether you want to shop for leading fashion brands, or buy from a trusted eBay seller with an eye for vintage clothes and the perfect accessories, eBay Fashion is a one-stop destination for style and value,” she maintained.” ra
