Singapore to host Asia’s first Men’s Fashion Week 2011
Story 6 - News

COME end-March, Singapore will host Asia’s inaugural Men’s Fashion Week (MFW) 2011, the first fashion showcase dedicated to menswear, outside of Paris and Milan.

The festival, organised by local events and publishing group Fide Multimedia Pte Ltd and One International Holdings Pte Ltd, will feature international brands like Etro and Canali, alongside Asian fashion favourites such as Shanghai Tang, Raoul and Japan’s DressCamp.

Noting that men’s style consciousness “has come of age” in Asia, Frank Cintamani, chairman of MFW 2011 Singapore, revealed at a press briefing held last month that up to 18 labels will be taking part in the inaugural five-day event, starting on March 30, which will showcase their Autumn/Winter 2011 collections.

Among them are Boss Black by Hugo Boss, Emmanuel, Versace and South Korea’s G.I.L. Homme, he disclosed, stating that the remaining brands will be revealed in two more press briefings to be held prior to the show. “It will also cement Singapore’s position as the go-to country in search of quality, renowned menswear brands for shoppers in Asia,” Cintamani continued.

Meanwhile, the show’s creative director, Daniel Boey, added: “MFW 2011 Singapore is a historic milestone for not only Singapore’s men’s fashion industry, but also for Singapore as a whole … [It] would make Singapore second to none in Asia for fashion.”

MFW 2011 Singapore, which is slated as a non-profit annual event, will also see Asian male supermodel Philip Huang as the “face” of the festival, while local celebrities MTV VJ Utt and model/ actor Julian Hee will be the “voice” and “heart”, representing the role of music and the support of the local fashion scene respectively, the organisers revealed.

Additionally, to “inspire the man on the street”, about 30% of the tickets, starting from S$40 (US$31.20) will be sold to the public. While the venue for the inaugural fashion showcase has not been finalised, Cintamani revealed that it would likely be held at the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.
