Sweets & Snacks Expo 2011 brings a galaxy of new snack
and confectionery products to market
Story 3 - Previews

FOLLOWING the debut of the World Department Store Forum (WDSF) in Moscow, Russia, in 2009, the event’s organiser, Intercontinental Group of Department Stores (IGDS), is bringing the biennial event to Asia.

The second WDSF that IGDS is co-organising with China’s largest retail conglomerate, The Bailian Group, is scheduled to take place on June 9 and 10 this year at the International Convention Hall, Shanghai Expo Center in Shanghai, China.

Described as a gathering of department store operators from across the world and their global suppliers, brands and partners, the forum aims to be an event where all stakeholders in the retail industry can gather to learn from one another, exchange ideas and information, and in the process achieve closer cooperation, says IGDS from its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

The two-day conference will feature “16 seasoned retail CEOs [who] will present the latest successful developments in their companies and share with delegates their strategic visions”.

The theme of this year’s WDSF is “China Impacts Department Stores and Suppliers”. Elaborating on the theme, IGDS states: “The emergence of China as the future’s largest retail market in the world is going to have major implications for [not only] retail companies developing in China but also for department stores, suppliers and brands worldwide.

“Now, retail executives have to integrate these new factors in their strategic plans, especially regarding the flow of investments, marketing spending, growth potential and the capitalisation of new trends.”
