As the cliché goes, time flies. The year 2011 is already half over and what an ominous half-year it has been. When Asia ushered in 2011, it was with an upbeat sentiment buoyed by exhilarating economic recovery and growth in the previous year. Hardly was there any inkling of the widespread cataclysm that would descend upon the region and the world in just the first couple of months. The situation has thrown the second half of the year into a quandary and rendered its outlook from robust to mixed. There are now clear and present dangers facing Asian economies on the one hand, but there are some seemingly promising prospects on the other. What is the good and bad news facing Asian consumer markets and, in turn, Asian retailers?
