ECC to open Thailand’s first ‘resort’ mall in Chiang Mai
Story 10 - Property Update

CHIANG MAI, in northern Thailand, will be home to the country’s first outdoor- indoor resort mall by end of this year. Developed by Netherlands-based resort mall developer and management group, ECC International Real Estate, the Promenada Resort Mall Chiang Mai, aims to provide shoppers with a “resort” feel, complete with covered walkways and al fresco dining.

Said the company’s CEO, Tjeert Kwant: “The outside area is beautifully sculpted, and one of the key design principles was to combine the feeling of a high-class shopping experience with the sense of being surrounded by nature, by greenery and by open space.

“We offer shoppers a totally unique way of combining their retail excursion with a feeling of natural escape and being enveloped by the outdoors, and a way of enjoying the peace of the outdoor space.”

Targeting tourists and families from Lamphun, Chiang Mai and Lampang, the mall, which comprises two threestorey buildings split by a canal and an outdoor activities area, combines glass walls and skylights with air-conditioned comfort and a wide range of shopping and dining options.

Outside, the Promenada will feature a terraced garden and farm, as well as a waterfall. These will promote the relaxing resort feel that the company believes will lead to extended shopper visits to the mall, thus optimising revenues for retailers on the premises.

“Not only will our resort mall attract customers from this wide region, the time spent by the visitors at the mall will considerably increase as a result of this concept and the variety of activities on offer. This is a key value for our tenants and it will enable them to optimise their performance,” Kwant maintained.
