Singapore , 15 September 2005 – On 7 September 2005 in Beijing , the second Retail Asia Pacific Top 500 Awards unveiled the top performing retail organisations in the region including five “Best of the Best” winners.

Presented by Retail Asia Publishing (Organiser), Euromonitor International (Official Market Information Provider) and KPMG (Principal Program Partner), and sponsored by VISA International (Principal Sponsor) and Epson Singapore (Co-Sponsor), special trophies and certificates were given to the top performing retail organisations in various categories : -

The first series of awards, “Top Retailer” – Gold, Silver or Bronze were given to the top three retail companies in 14 markets - Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. Selected from the 2nd Retail Asia Pacific Top 500 ranking recently published in Retail Asia magazine, there are 42 winners for this category.

The second series of awards, “ Asia Pacific - Best of the Best” recognises the most illustrious and the most superlative retail organisations of the Top 500. The number one retail companies in the 14 economies were shortlisted and interviewed by Euromonitor International. The interview format contains a set of qualitative and quantitative criteria which includes value proposition & CRM (excellence in customer service, merchandising offerings, store operations and marketing communications), management and operations infrastructure and process (technology, human resources and corporate culture) and record of operations. A panel of three independent judges then reviewed the responses and gave scores for each of these candidates.

Chief Judge Freddy Soon, who is senior vice president, CEO office of Hyflux Ltd, said, “ Retail is so much a part of the social, cultural and economic fabric of a country or city, linked with the mores, life styles and incomes of the people. It is quite difficult to pick one overall winner. Hence, the Best of the Best award provides the ‘best' recognition for these well deserving retail organisations.”
